“There can be nothing in the world more beautiful than the Yosemite, the groves of the giant sequoias and redwoods, the Canyon of the Colorado, the Canyon of the Yellowstone, the Three Tetons; and our people should see to it that they are preserved for their children and their children’s children forever, with their majestic beauty all unmarred.”
– THEODORE ROOSEVELT
When is the best time to make a reservation?
We recommend making reservations at least 6 months before your trip. Our vans book fast and we want to make sure you get the exact dates you’re hoping for.
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 45-day Cancelation Policy. At the time of your reservation, we will take a 50% down payment to hold your reservations. 45 days prior to your reservation we will require the remaining 50% of your payment. Any Reservations canceled within the 45-day cancellation policy will not receive their payment back unless we can fill their reserved dates (45 days still provides us with a good opportunity to so). The week before your reservation we will also request a refundable $1500 deposit to cover any damage, excessive dirtiness, or missing equipment; this entire deposit will be returned if no damage occurs.
Where do I pick-up the van?
Once you book a van we will email you specific instruction and direction to our office/pick-up location. Each office hub is located in a convenient location close to the airport and in close proximity to grocery stores.
If you spent the previous night in town, we can drop off your van at your hotel! Drop-offs can cost up to $50 dependent on location and distance from the office.
*Please Note: The earliest you can pick up a van is 2:00 PM, unless otherwise agreed upon. The drop off time is no later than 11:00 AM on your final day.
Which is better? An RV or an campervan?
We truly do believe that a campervan is the ultimate home on wheels. While RVs are spacious, they are too large for many campsites and parking lots and can be difficult to drive. Our luxury vans are functional, reliable, easy to drive, and have all the same comforts as an RV – without being too unwieldy to parallel park, drive to the grocery store, or take it down a one-way road. In other words, our campervans keep you mobile and free to explore far into the heart of our country’s beautiful landscapes, without sacrificing the comforts of home.
Do you rent other outdoor equipment?
Yes – our vans turn the trailhead into home for the night, while what’s inside our vans will get you out onto the trails the next day! Through our Trip Planning Service, we can provide road and mountain bikes, fishing, climbing, backpacking, day hiking gear and more – if you can dream it, we will do everything we can to achieve it. Our Trip Planning Service can also offer a shopping service in select regions, so your van can be fully stocked with gourmet goodies before you pick it up!
What type of engine do you use? How many MPG?
Our Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans have a 4-Cylinder Turbocharged Diesel Engine. This is a two-stage turbo charged diesel fuel economy with excellent fuel efficiency – vans typically average 24-27 mpg!
Can we pick up and drop off the van outside of your current hubs?
We CAN offer drop off and pick up service for vans in alternate locations on a location- and cost-dependent-basis. Contact our Trip Planning Service for more information.
Where should we camp?
The world is your oyster! More than anything, our vans offer freedom and the flexibility to go wherever you want, when you want. That said, we strongly recommend making campground reservations as soon as possible for sites in our National Parks during their busy summer months. If those book, there are typically countless campsites in surrounding National Forest and BLM lands not are not nearly as busy; they may require a bit of extra driving, but that’s why you’re in a comfortable Moterra campervan, right?
If you would like, our Trip Planning Service team would love to book campgrounds for you so your vacation can begin… now! Take the guesswork and hassle out of your experience; give us a call and we will help you build a custom itinerary that includes all reservations – and insider recommendations on all our favorite spots!
Does our personal insurance cover your campervans?
It depends on your insurance company, but most auto insurance policies cover physical damage to our campervans. Some plans may only cover your liability; in this case, you should ask your agent if they can sell you a binder to cover physical damage while the campervan is in your possession.
We already have an insurance policy on each of our Moterra vehicles, but our rental insurance is secondary to your own, meaning that if there is a claim, we will first seek to collect from your insurance, and then from ours. The insurance deductible is $1500. We will provide detailed directions on requiring a binder once a reservation has been made.
If your insurance company cannot sell you a binder, our insurance can still cover you, up to the state minimums for liability. Our insurance covers comprehensive and collision, but does not cover loss of use. Under our insurance, if you are at fault and damage a vehicle, you could incur loss of use charges while the vehicle is being repaired. If you have your own policy, then we can collect loss of use from your insurance company.
Are there seatbelts for the back seat?
Yes, the back seat of each Moterra van has 3 to 4 seat belts (depending on the model) offering a total of 5 to 6 seatbelted seats in each van. All seat belts have been professional installed and are 100% safe for car seats and boosters.
Where can we park/camp the van overnight?
Our vans are 19 feet long and are not required to park in an RV designated space. Our vans can park in any tent or car camping sites accessible by car. If you would like to use the RV hookups you are more than welcome to reserve an RV site, but it is not necessary. We are happy to give our recommendations for campsites – and can also book them for you through our Trip Planning Service should you desire.
Do your vans have RV hook ups?
Yes, though our vans do not need the hook-ups to function – our goal is to keep you free to explore, even and especially if this means getting off the grid. Each Moterra campervan comes with solar panels and batteries hooked up to the alternator, meaning that as long as you have sun and/or are in motion, you should never need to plug in. (Driving for just one hour fully charges the batteries!)
Each Moterra campervan also has a 24 gallon water, which typically lasts our average guest three days. If you should need to refill, most hub towns, National Parks, and RV-friendly campgrounds have water, and we will include notes on where to find water in your itinerary notes should you use our Trip Planning Service.
